Client Techrete
Architect James Smyth Architects
M&E Project Value €1.4m
Project Duration April 2008 to October 2008
Description 1,250m² 2-storey office headquarters building is located off the M1 in Balbriggan, north county Dublin. Exposed waffle pre-cast concrete slab units c/w embedded coil provides heating in winter & cooling in summer using a ground-source heat pump as the primary energy source. The building was thermally-modelled to confirm the environmental conditions provided by the embedded coil/heat pump system used in conjunction with natural ventilation. The large central atrium assists the natural ventilation strategy and projects natural daylight into the central working spaces. The artificial lighting scheme was designed using direct-indirect high-efficiency luminaires to highlight the Techrete pre-cast product. Significant co-ordination was required at project design stage in order to accurately integrate embedded piping & cable conduit into the pre-cast units.
