First established in 1946, Heatons is an Irish department store with over fifty locations throughout the country. The project consisted of the fast-track fit-out of two new 2,000m2 retail stores located in the Carrickmines and Laoise Retail Parks.
The Carrickmines store was first to be completed and was used as a benchmark for future outlets, targeting high-quality low-energy building services installations. The building consisted of a ground and mezzanine level retail space, rear stores and staff, admin and toilet facilities. All central plant were located in an external compound to the rear of the unit.
Axiseng delivered an engineering solution which satisfied the built environment whilst also offering significant energy savings, reducing overall operating and maintenance costs.
The large number of specialist client direct vendors and sub-contractors made careful coordination essential to the completion of a successful project.
Heat recovery mechanical ventilation, energy label “A” VRV air-conditioning and low-energy high-output light fittings were installed throughout the facilities. The fast track 10-week site program required high levels of co-ordination, on-site quality control, detailed weekly meetings and cost management to successfully deliver the project.
As a result of the fit-outs, the developments created new construction jobs in a time of the economic decline as well as new retail positions upon completion in 2008. The two new stores will allow Heatons to compete with other super stores outside of the Dublin city area.
