Confidential 10MW Data Centre

The client is a leading provider of premium carrier-neutral data centres, operating their facilities in multiple city locations across Europe.

The works comprised of the construction of a new 10MW data centre for our confidential client located in Dublin, Ireland. The project consisted of the modification and expansion of the existing office and warehouse to accommodate the requirements to support the new Data Centre. This work incorporated the addition of an additional floor level in the warehouse, the modification of the existing office facilities, additional plant space for mechanical and electrical plant and equipment together with the provision of new remote substation and a generator enclosure.

Axiseng collaborated with Kirby Group (M&E contractor) and StructureTone (main contractor) in the design and build of the project. Planning permission was granted in December 2013.

Some of the challenges on the programme included the constraints of the existing planning permission and space within the proposed development for services and testing the viability of the performance specification. Axiseng utilised the latest Revit software in collaboration with the contractor’s site team to develop a 3D coordinated model with early input from the site foreman. This allowed for the construction to be prefabricated while saving time and increasing efficiency on site. Axiseng carried out 1D thermo-fluid simulation of pipework networks to establish the functionality of the proposed pipework system and CFD analysis of the internal and external plant to validate the space temperatures and airflow at design stage. Upon completion, the design team delivered a high quality data centre that met all requirements from the client.
