Situated in the Malahide Castle development, Avoca Handweavers occupy approximately 2,000m2 of retail space. The completed project consisted of the full installation of a new retail area within a mixed use development including a front end space, store rooms and staff areas. The fit-out included a food-hall containing a delicatessen, bakery and a café with a large commercial kitchen and dining area.
The retail space was located in a very noise sensitive area which meant that careful consideration was required when selecting the plant. Cooking smells also presented a challenge as there were surrounding naturally ventilated buildings which could not be effected.
The cooking area ventilation was provided by a dedicated Air Handling Unit (AHU) located at roof level with heating and cooling to the store area supplied by a Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF) system.
Axiseng’s mechanical and electrical engineering designs allowed for the implementation of a low energy solution which met all of the client’s requirements without impacting on the surrounding spaces.
The overall design preserved the historical elements of the Malahide Castle while bringing practicality and modern standards to the development allowing for visitors to comfortably and safely access the client’s retail and restaurant facilities.
